KwaZulu Natal & Gauteng, two provinces in South Africa, have been hit extremely hard during the riots and looting, causing massive shortages of food & basic necessities.

Are you looking to help? Here is a list of businesses and organisations that are assisting these affected areas.

 

  • Gift of The Givers. 

Gift of the Givers  is helping with the crisis that is currently going on in both KZN and Gauteng. They are helping with the following: 

  1. Food Supplies,
  2. Medical Supplies 
  3. Livelihood & business Support

  • Send virtual vouchers via the Shoprite Group

Anyone, in South Africa or outside, can send virtual vouchers directly to your friends and families’ phones  These vouchers can be spent on groceries and other essential goods at Shoprite, Checkers and Usave stores.

The vouchers are sent via SMS to a recipient’s mobile phone and they can be redeemed immediately. Customers can also send money to their loved ones without a bank account at Money Market counters at select Shoprite, Checkers and Usave stores.

How to buy vouchers: Go to www.computicket.com. The virtual  voucher can only be used in-store by entering the voucher number into the pin pad at check out.

 

  • Hey Gorgeous & Bex 

The team at Hey Gorgeous and Bex are collecting non-perishable food items, nappies, baby food, sanitary pads, and pet food for those in need. 

You can make a drop off at the following stores, distribution centers and offices: 

  1. Claremont : 12 Cavendish Street, just behind Cavendish Square (mountain side)
  2. Willowbridge Mall, Carl Cronje Street, Tygervalley
  3. Distribution center : Units E3&4 Prime Park, Mocke Street, Diep River.
  4. Bex Couriers, Head Office 120 Loper Avenue Spartan, Kempton Park.

  • Future Females 

Future Females has launched a Business Relief Fund to support entrepreneurs and business owners. They will be issuing R2000 business grants to eligible South African business owners, to help with:

  1. Cleaning and rebuilding
  2. Replenishing stock
  3. Repurchasing critical supplies
  4. Purchasing equipment
  5. Short-term wage gaps

  • Sharks Rugby Team - Hands of Hope

#HandsOfHope is a campaign aimed to help rebuild KZN by uplifting the community and peoples’ livelihoods. 

This campaign has a three-phased approach to reach their goals of hope and sustainability.  

  1. A soup kitchen will be run for 10 days, feeding 1000 people daily at Jonsson Kings Park.
  2. The Sharks and their stakeholders will look at helping to rebuild as many shops or community facilities that have been affected by looting.
  3. The distribution of essential food to communities in need of assistance.

  • Business Recovery Support

The Department of Small Business Support has laid out a plan of action for uninsured small enterprises and informal traders affected by the unrest.

They're assisting small enterprises that need working capital, equipment and furniture. 
Informal traders are eligible to receive a R3000 once-off grant to help them rebuild their business.
