Testing the limits, exploring the possibilities, creating a new reality for online payments. Who do these words fit? A mad scientist? No, these are actually three attributes of the exceptional engineering team at Peach Payments responsible for helping us revolutionise payments in Africa.

Meet Ryan Breytenbach, our Cyber Security Analyst.

How did you get started in tech?
From an early age I was always surrounded by technology. With my analytical side I’ve always been intrigued by how things work and what makes it “tick”.

Although I didn't know specifically in high school that I wanted to pursue a career in cybersecurity, I have always been interested in technology.
At the time I discovered my love for information security, I just so happened to be working at my first job, and I took it very seriously to advance my professional career.

I became more aware of where to search for security concerns as I worked with cyber security in additional sectors.

What do you love most about your role?
Every day, I learn something new. This is genuinely fun, and there is never a dull moment. With Cyber attacks being at an all time high, helping organizations and identifying risks and/or assisting in ways to mitigate them is what I love the most about my role.

What advice would you give others who are starting out in your field?
You must be a voracious learner to succeed in this career. Things change quickly, and the bad guys swiftly adapt their strategy. To be good you have to be willing to be a constant learner.

What skills have helped you succeed at Peach Payments?
Attention to detail, Problem solving skills and a desire to learn on a constant basis.

What excites you most about working in the payments space?
The fact that I get to secure data, information, and an organization in Fintech is the job's most fulfilling aspect.
It's the best feeling every time you identify a new problem and get it fixed in the organization before a malicious actor learns about it.

If you were a superhero, what would your superpower and superhero name be?
My superpower of choice would be speed, having a speed advantage in the Cyber Security space would be incredibly beneficial especially during an active cyber attack. My superhero name would have to be Mr. Robot.

What new skill (technical / non-technical) are you hoping to learn next?
I’m really excited to learn more about malware analysis as this would greatly benefit me in my role.
